Drapery System Harnesses Sun's Power

This fully self-contained, drapery automation system powered by the sun helps fulfill the ever-increasing demand for green technology in the growing assortment of window automation.
Blind Corners & Curves introduces the current availability of an award-winning and affordable drapery system that is so easy to install requires no electrician, no pre-wiring and no batteries. The system can handle a 44-pound drapery on a track up to 18 feet wide, and it can even be operated by hand. The energy consumption of the system is so well managed that only five hours of direct sunlight are required for a full charge sufficient to operate a drapery system twice daily for 20 days without a recharge.

This fully self-contained, drapery automation system powered by the sun helps fulfill the ever-increasing demand for green technology in the growing assortment of window automation. So the solar energy can ensure on-going power for uninterrupted normal daily use.

Available today, this system has been recognized by the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) as the Best Technical Innovation in Motorization this year. The motor is unique in that it completely incorporates the solar energy storage and electronic circuitry within its aesthetically shaped, compact housing. The system has been designed such that it can rapidly be charged by a very compact photovoltaic panel that measures only 5.9 by 3.7 inches. The panel is normally mounted close to the motor, inside against the glass pane facing the sun, so the drape hides the solar panel completely from view.

There are plans to extend this technology for application in a wider range of shading systems in the near future. These products for the automation of window coverings will be significant contributors to energy savings in both residential and commercial settings.
